I have a soft spot for sarcastic and smart-ass heroines. But this was too much. I couldn't stand this character 1/2 way through the book. As I was reading I was trying to wade through all the (over-the-top) smart-assery to get to the plot and finally, after about 3/4 of the book, I gave up.

I think Cherie Priest said, “hey, this paranormal vampire action stuff is popular – I could write one of those!” (or two… or three.) And she did. And it is actually really quite good. Unlike, say, the ‘paranormal vampire action’ book I read last year by Chloe Neill, which was just NOT GOOD. As opp...

This was an okay book. I get a little irritated with the narrative voice at times, but I love the cast of characters, the action was mostly non-predictable and overall it kept me interested and engaged from start to finish. It might have helped if I had read this one first as well, but too late to t...

2.5 starsBloodshot I’m not sure how I feel about this book. The first half was so-so, the second half quite good. Much of it wasn’t predictable. There were elements that pushed the first half up and the second half down. And one overarching problem: The main character is basically a sociopath. For e...

This was ok, but I'm reading it through Kindle (on my computer, as I don't have an e-reader). I find it a pain/don't like reading a book on my computer screen. The story itself is fine -- fluffy summer reading of a sort, I suppose, yet it's not compelling enough to make me want to continue reading i...

3.5 stars - This book started out slow and then about halfway through it started getting good. Raylene is a thief, who is also a vampire. She's hired by another vampire, which should usually stays away from. She's been breaking all of her rules and she feels like she should start all over becaus...

Aside from the overindulgence in semi-colons and "And" at the beginning of sentences, this was a fun read. The plot is a bit predictable and leaping from time to time, but the main character is interesting enough to keep me reading. Her neurosis goes overboard from time to time, but usually within c...

This is a cute little read, kind of Urban Fantasy Light. Reminded me a little of Spider's Bite in the tone and writing, but just replace "assassin" with "thief." The story was convoluted and well flushed out. The characters were interesting (loved Sister Rose), and although I wouldn't call them f...

I don't know what it was about Raylene Pendle that I disliked but something really irked me. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Covert government agency kidnapping and experimenting on vampires. Art and jewel thief, Raylene Pendle asked to steal secret documents to help vampire Ian Stott regain the v...
