Dirigibles, zombies and a crazy inventor - can a story get any better?! This book has been on my "to read" list for a while now and I'm so glad it finally made it to the top. The author has built a fascinating and unique world. Great read!

The moment I saw the words "steampunk" and "zombies" I knew I had to read it.

Boneshaker had a really amazing premise (steampunk + zombies + American Civil War), but the execution fell horribly flat and I felt disappointed throughout the book. I can't believe it won all the awards it did, and I think maybe the award-winners kept imaging the book to be more worthy because of t...

Read my full review at SFF Book Revie.I expected to love this. Steampunk Seattle with zombies! And it started out well enough. That first chapter had me right from the start. I loved its quirkiness and the flow of the prose - and then the actual story started. As we follow 16-year-old Zeke into the B...

4.5/5 I've read Cherie Priest before but only her urban fantasy series Cheshire Red Reports which was pretty fab. Boneshaker is an example of early steampunk, and it's simply fantastic.Intense, gripping, gritty. There are no flourishes here, nothing extra, everything is simple and pure. It's drab an...

This was mostly a fun read. I enjoyed Priest's vision for an alternate steampunk version of 19th century Seattle, although the zombies felt kind of extraneous to the plot. She could have taken them out and still written the same story about a mad scientist and the fallout from his experiment, partic...

Devoured it as quickly as one of the rotters would if it had been human flesh. Loved it!

I picked up this book because I was looking for an interesting read in a genre I hadn't read much of before. I figured that a steampunk, zombie hybrid would at the very least be harmless fun. I'm glad that my expectations weren't all that high, because that is all this was; harmless fun.Priest sets ...

Such fun! Priest gets really creative in building the world of 1860s and 70s Seattle. A 200-foot-tall wall surrounding the city? Airships? Zombies? Pirates? A lengthened Civil War? Brown text? Dated language (negro, Chinaman) to make narration more authentic? An absolutely beautiful cover? Quirky st...
