This is the weakest audiobook I've listened to by Shannon Hale, mainly because of the slow beginning and the too many songs that made it sound almost like a musical. Still, a nice story with a lovely ending, that made up for the slow start.
This book has been sitting on my virtual shelf even pre-GoodReads membership and I'm glad that even after all this time I have finally got around to reading this. I thought initially that Book of a Thousand Days would be more of a light fairytale about friendship then the dark, more imaginative stor...
After her mother's death, Dashti the mucker leaves the desolate steppe in search of her fortune (or at least, survival). On her first day as a maid, she is assigned to Lady Saren--who is promptly locked in a tower for refusing to marry the formidable Lord Khasar. Although Saren is silly and clearl...
With The Book of a Thousand Days I have consumed another well-written and well-stet fairytale retelling, although around page 65 some decision-making was due: Go on reading or succumb to your urge to grab the next book on pile. I am not sure why. I am glad I chose to read on, for I enjoyed the secon...
The Book of a Thousand Days is a retelling of the Grimm fairytale Maid Maleen, set in a world inspired by medieval Mongolia. Dashti is a young maid who is bricked into a tower with the Lady Saren, who is being punished by her father because she refused to marry the suitor he picked for her, Lord Kha...
Loosely based on the Grimm Brothers Fairy Tale "Maid Maleen" , "Book of a Thousand Days" begins with the sealing in of maid Dashti and her mistress, Lady Saren. Saren has refused to marry Lord Khasar and her father imprisons her in a tower with enough food to last seven years to see if she would cha...

Dashti was born a mucker girl on the Asian Steppes, but when her mother dies and she has no family left, she finds work as a ladies maid for Lady Saren, daughter of the ruler of Titor's Garde...
