One of my favorite books of all time. It's realistic story that stands the test of time. As a poet writing prose, Pasternak has a way of inflecting his storytelling with powerful sentences and sentence structures. A simple turn of phrase is often enough to convey depths of love or grief or loss or t...
The only reason I read this is so that I can say I’ve read it – which is mostly the case with classics. They’re classics for a reason, right? So, I’ve got to read it for myself. I didn’t really have high hopes for Doctor Zhivago as it just never attracted me to begin with. But whoever expected a...
I tried... I really did... Couldn't get more than 50 pages in before I had to give up. The story and the writing wasn't holding my interest and the plethora of names the author throws at you gets confusing pretty quickly. Might come back to it at another time...
it's not the fault of this book that it took me so long to read. i actually quite liked most of it. it would help to know more russian history, but i think i got the important points. more than the story, though, i enjoyed the writing, especially early on.

I think this is a book that everybo...
A strange novella: beautiful in places, with dream-like qualities and hence the reader is often a little lost too.Serezha visits his sister and family in 1916 Russia. He is very tired and dreams/reminisces about his recent past, particularly his time as tutor to a rich boy and the lady's companion w...
Reviewing a classic is always difficult business. Most people are likely familiar with the storyline, if only from the Omar Sharif film. Pasternak tells the story of an elite doctor and his family whose lives are thrown into turmoil by the Russian Revolution. During the revolution Zhivago loses his ...
