Broken Homes is the fourth PC Grant (though I keep calling this series Rivers of London) novel, the next book Foxglove Summer is due sometime soon! Hooray! You can also read my reviews for the first books: Rivers of London/Midnight Riot, Moon over Soho and Whispers Under Ground. I wanted to read t...
So let's see. I need to post a review about something I liked. *scans list of recent reads* Nope... nope... no, not that either... Ah. There are some writers who feel they need to inject a little geekery into their books, trying to claim geek cred they haven’t really earned; I’ve seen more sadly mi...
Another absolute corker in the Peter Grant series. This time the magical cop has to deal with strange events south of the river. The usual eclectic mix of gods and goddesses from the rivers, bizarre crimes and good solid police work along with a dark sense of humour all move along to a tense and exci...
Not as much a fan of this one as the first 3. Took a long time to get going and then it didn't feel like anything got properly resolved. Still a solid book though with interesting areas magic from people's lives in a tower block; tree nymph etc . Surprised by the ending
Just pre-ordered the next book (Foxglove Summer), 3 months in advance. No book series has ever motivated me to do that before. First off, that revelation at the end just as everything was falling to pieces, that was perfect timing. So perfect it left me a little winded tbqh. Well done, Mr. Aaronov...
Paranormal procedural mysteries with a heavy hand for architecture, urban planning, and jazz. Yeah, it's not everyone's cuppa, but I freaking love this series. In this particular entry, Grant is dealing with the kind of hideous high-rise so common to housing projects for the poor in big cities. My L...
"This book is dedicated to all the people who get up and do something about it, whatever “it” is and however small the thing it is they do." With this perfect dedication, Broken Homes - the fourth entry in Ben Aaronovitch's series about a snarky, geeky and ultimately good London Police Constable Pet...
This is my favourite so far of the Peter Grant series, and not only as the premise contains the line: “why oh why did it have to be South of the River?” (most of my family have been in north London since before the war. South of the River jokes are a part of life). This book takes a step forward i...
Ben Aaronovitch’s series of books following new police recruit Peter Grant seem to have attracted a good sized fan base already, but now that I’ve reached the end of book number four, I’m not sure why. “Rivers of London is what would happen if Harry Potter grew up and joined the fuzz”, reads one r...
The book was slacking a bit in the beginning, as many incidents seem scattered points that makes it difficult to remember them later in the book. But this loose start of the plot has improved considerably compared the previous books.Once again, Peter Grant chases the supernatural criminals that dare...
