Sometimes in a novel when you go down the well you have to put the lotion on your skin, other times you're travelling back to Earth. The latter, this one is the latter.James Holden and his crew of the Rocinante are back again serving as an ad hoc belter law enforcement when they are sent to investig...

This review assumes you read the first book, Leviathan Wakes. If not, do not read beyond this point. The story begins a year after the events of the first book and now has more PoVs than the previous two. Holden returns as captain of the Rocacinte as does his crew. I rate this book a bit higher ...

This is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge improvement on it's predecessor because the authors added some female protagonists, sorted out their prose, ditched the whole noir-pastiche/horror show mash-up mess and didn't over-do the guns and explosions thing. Unfortunately they are stuck in the same boring univ...

This is definitely another very good book in the Expanse series. Most people will probably consider it as good as the first one. I think it was almost as good as the first one but I will get back to that.Holden and his friends are back. Unfortunately all the dirtbags that wanted to turn the alien pr...

Leviathan Wakes was one of my great reads this year (review: http://carols.booklikes.com/post/326388/post ). It broke into my reading blahs and set off a trend of great reads. After finishing, I promptly placed a library request for Caliban’s War, out of general interest and just the tiniest bit of ...

The Expanse series is rapidly becoming one of my favorite stories, and it's only partly due to the scope. Look: If I'm going to read a space-opera, I want huge, Huge, HUGE scope, right? Well it's my own preferences here, so the answer is a definite YES! I know a little astronomy and scale and puttin...

Caliban's War. I have a biased opinion about middle books in general as I find that they tend to be mediocre or even regressive. By my reckoning, whether right or wrong, having a weak middle tome sets a lower bar for the finale, or presents a starker contrast to notch up our appreciation of the fu...

Very fun book, not as excellent as the first novel. The writing was good but the plot was a little uneven, some serious ghosts in the machine on this one. The characters were delightful and remain the high point of this series to date. I will definitely read the next volume and look forward to it.
