I really enjoyed this book. While not the most reality based detective story, the characterizations, alternating POV's, and changing time lines really drew me in.
I think this novel has really made me realise that Kate Atkinson is probably going to become one of my favourite authors. Case Histories opens with three 'cold cases'; the disappearance of Olivia Land, the random murder of Laura Wyre and the teenage wife Michelle murdering her husband with an axe. A...
Fun book. If goodreads let you give half stars, I'd have given this one a 4 1/2*.Liked the detective, Jackson Brodie. Liked the setting, Cambridge. Liked the cases Jackson Brodie investigated. Loved the writing. Kate Atkinson kept me interested in all three mysteries where a less accomplished writer...
ugh...I struggled so much with this book - the premise was interesting, a PI solving various cases...but it was so convoluted that it was hard to keep track...the ending seemed a bit weak when all the cases were finally solved. can't say i'd recommend this to anyone

If Goodreads ever implements a half-star system, this one gets bumped up. I liked it quite a bit, and I'm not usually much one for mysteries and thrillers. The first case featured in this book focuses on a young mother who is extremely disappointed with the way her life has turned out, can't stand her standoffish husband and only truly loves Olivia, the happiest and prettiest of her many daughters. When Olivia goes missing the book turns to the next ca...
ooch, pretty crappy imo. "Amelia had once heard someone say that you could tell what a woman's orgasm would be like if you heard her sneeze." (p. 127)I wouldn't put that in anyone's mouth, not even a character I despised; it's just too lame.At the same time it's an easy read with a decent entertainm...
