My expectations for this book was based primarily on all of those James Bond films - something with action, fast cars, a few gadgets and maybe a 'love them and leave them' love interest. This book had that and more. The plot was not that unusual for a spy novel, but what surprised me was James Bon...

It is hard for me to be objective when it comes to agent 007, but I will try. Casino Royale does read quite a bit like an origin story, with all the good, and bad that brings with it. The first James Bond novel, and I think one of the best. Fleming writes a much harder, less charming Bond, than the films attempted to create.

Well, 2/3 of it is anyway. The last 1/3 is an emotional drama with some strangely dated plays by each character (such as when Bond refers to her emotional withdrawal and sexual advances as having the "titillatin...

A pretty decent movie and a first rate novel. I love the Bond movies if for nothing else I find the anti-feminism in hilariously bad taste - but the problem for me always was, "Why is a SECRET AGENT running around fighting CRIME SYNDICATES run by ridiculously silly and stupid individuals (as fun as...

Surprisingly restrained, a very good start to the series--I want to read more. I'm glad I read it before seeing the (also very good) movie.
