Kathleen Paulson enjoys her life as a small-town librarian with two extraordinary cats, Owen and Hercules, who provide companionship during the quiet times and have a remarkable talent for sleuthing when murder disturbs the peace.... The local businesses of Mayville Heights hope to convince Chicago-based company Legacy Tours to sell a vacation package for their town. Legacy Tours partner Mike Glazer grew up in Mayville Heights, but he’s no longer the small-town boy people once knew. Even the local bootlegger has an issue with the bossy loudmouth Mike has become—until someone shuts him up for good. When Kathleen discovers Mike’s body on the boardwalk, she can’t help but get involved in the investigation—even if her beau, Detective Marcus Gordon, would rather she didn’t. Now, with a little help from Owen and Hercules, it’s up to Kathleen to make sure the killer is booked for an extended stay in prison before someone else takes a permanent vacation.

This was more "day in the life of Midwestern librarian Kathleen" than mystery. I am giving it one star for the cats, Owen and H...
Slow. Very, very slow. Magical cats are cool enough, but feral cats who don't want to be touched by anyone but Kathleen - yet they LOVE hanging out with and interacting with people (raising their paws in agreement, "murping" in acknowledgment...). Seems odd, even for magical cats.
My reviews for previous volumes: Curiosity Thrilled the Cat, Sleight of Paw, and Copycat Killing. This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite series! The characters are wonderful, the mysteries are good, I love the cats, and though larger events are moving slowly, I've been enjoying the ride. U...
The mystery is okay, but these books for me are all about the relationships and the cats. I try not to rush through them to the end, because I so enjoy the journey. Looking forward to the next one. And I just love Hercules and Owen. They are written spot-on.
A highly entertaining, escapist read, especially (and probably only) if you like cats. These are magical cats and they have very distinctive, strong personalities as well as "superpowers". They help Kathleen solve mysteries in her little Minnesota town, much to the consternation of the detective and...
