Welcome to Serendipity Island and the Caught Between romance series!
After spending years concealing the truth about her family, Paige Calhoun's life is centered around her daughter and her career, and there's no room in it for anything--or anyone--else. But when instincts honed at the side of her con-artist dad warn her that her grandma is in trouble, she returns to Serendipity Island to protect the woman who once disowned her.
Brody Jackson always thought of Paige Calhoun as the little girl next door. Three years her senior, his sights were set on a football scholarship, and fame and fortune as a pro quarterback. But now he's back home, his career down the tubes, battling the grandma from hell for permanent custody of his teenage daughter...all because of one careless mistake.
Brody's got no time for one hot woman who's messing with his mind and his future. And Paige can't afford to let one gorgeous man distract her from saving the residents of the island from her dad's latest scam. All they both want is a life free from the past. Instead, they're caught between the truth and true love...
This book includes a family-phobic heroine, a hunky hero whose luck--and love life--are about to change, romance, chocolate chip cookies, nighttime shenanigans, a con-artist who swears he's gone straight, and a battle-of-the-sexes secondary romance.
An interview with author Sheila Seabrook:
All of your books include family. What's up with that?
I love writing about families and family life. Siblings, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins. And let's not forget friends who become part of the family.
Add in the romance and what I've ended up with is my own brand of family life romance novels.
The humor in the Caught Between series is kind of--dare I say it out loud--crazy. Romantic comedy on steroids?
It's true. The Caught Between series should come with a warning: Do not ingest liquids while reading.
I like to believe the crazy coming out of my head is humor. Or snark. Or humorous snark. Although sometimes a character teeters on the edge of crazy, like Delores from Caught Between a Lie and True Love. Poor Delores. If ever there was a character who needed a vacation and a good beach read romance to help her chill, she's it.
Each book in the Caught Between romance series includes a battle-of-the-sexes secondary romance. Why did you decide to include these romantic relationships in your books?
Well, sometimes relationships are easy, sometimes they're hard, and sometimes couples fight about things that are--in the large scheme of life--pretty funny.
In my battle-of-the-sexes story threads, one or both of the people in the relationship are on the verge of a change which will affect the dynamics of the couple. And generally, both of the people want to be on top of, and in charge of, the relationship.
Of course, because I only write happily-ever-after love stories, they always work things out in the end.
Your stories are populated with brides and marriage and matrimonial bliss. What's with the wedding obsession?
I blame my mother who allowed my sisters and me to play dress up with her wedding gown. The tattered remnants of the gown are now packed away in one of her trunks, awaiting the next generation of girls whose imaginations will be filled with love and marriage and Prince Charming.
Your books all have a small town romance feel.
I'm a small town girl through and through. I grew up on a grain farm, then later moved to the small town where I still live today. But my soul is rejuvenated by the sound of the ocean waves and the majestic views of the Rocky Mountains. The ideal place to live would have a mountain in the back and an ocean out the front. So I write small town romance, some set near the ocean, some near the Rocky Mountains. Maybe one day I'll combine the two.
What's next?
More contemporary romance filled with small towns, the craziness of family life, and characters I
