A great book for anyone interested in the history behind selected popular European (I'm pretty sure all the stories were from Europe but I could be wrong) fairytales. The stories include several illustrations from different editions as well, and it's cool to compare the different interpretations.

I would use this to counter the Grimm Brothers versions of fairytales. So that the children could see different versions. And we could compare and contrast the stories.

A good collection with excellent annotations. But I don't understand why they included so many classic illustrations -- and had to make them so tiny in order to cram them all in -- rather than offering just a few in a size that they could actually be seen.
This book is one of the best things I remember about my early childhood. I absolutely adore it. The illustrations are amazing, and the stories are as well. Mothers: Buy this for your children. Now. No, seriously, why are you still reading this?
