I was expecting this book to bore me to tears. Since the book is a classic, I had to give it a try. Clarke's sophisticated, yet easy to read prose had me riveted! While lacking to some degree in human character development, the plot, descriptions and depth of the story more than compensated. I wish ...

The "Overlords" appear with their spaceships over the major cities of Earth demanding--world peace. The copy of the book I recently saw in the book store had a blurb on the cover praising the novel from C.S. Lewis. That's appropriate I think. Clarke has always been interested in religious, spiritu...

I've read this book twice and never associated it with Clarke. Probably because I usually don't like his books, but I liked this one. Good story, good pacing.

Clarke continually revisits the idea that there will be some kind of quasi-mystical ascent to a higher level of being in his writings through some sort of science fiction (usually alien) intervention. This idea is not really interesting to me. I don't really see the world that way and I don't thin...

I'm not sure I got it. Loved the first half, but not so much the second. I know that, as far as my own history goes, anytime something starts as sci-fi but becomes bizarrely paranormal instead, it will almost always end with me disappointed. I don't like paranormal in my sci-fi, keep it out.

I’ve been recommended this book a number of times and I just can’t get on board with it. The writing is choppy and a bit sloppy. I feel like whenever the author couldn’t flesh something out, he just let his little characters get expositiony and explain it to us (or he did) because he couldn’t th...

Well crafted science fiction story that has held up extremely well throughout the years. I'm keen of Clarke's writing style and the plot devices he uses. Since there really isn't much bad about this book, and I'm sure all the good that can be said about it has been, I'll focus on what I didn't like,...
