Cute book about a dog's love for their ball and their friendship between other dogs and owners. The book has no words but it has colorful illustrations that will keep children interested.

The title says this is a primer about the flag, but it’s really a poem about flags, a meditation on flags, with fun illustrations. “There are flags on the moon, flags in cemeteries, costume flags. There are little flags that come from the barrel of a gunAnd say,BANG.”

I read this a few years ago and just didn't get it. My son picked this up during the last library visit, and I really enjoyed it. In 2008 gave it 2 starts, 2011 I'd give it 4, 2o I'll split the difference and rate it 3.

Simple yet fun book about making friends. Two boys meet on the street and engage in a mono syllabic conversation. This could be a very fun student read aloud, with 2 students or a divided class. Great for understanding punctuation and practicing expression while reading.

The ordinary-ness of the illustrations takes away from the poem.

For someone with a new interest in cartooning and illustration, seeing the styles of various popular and known-to-the-kid illustrators is great. And, the answers were funny, too.

Illustrations match the feelings of the grumpy boy in the story.
