I have read this book and seen the film so many times I can almost quote it. I can't imagine living with someone who was so unstable, and all you wanted was for her to love you!
Maybe this should really get 5 stars. No other books I can think of, except maybe The Way I See It, by Patti Davis, elicited such perfectly realized voyeuristic distaste.
Read this back in 1984 according to my old diary. Beatings with metal coat hangers comes to mind!
I read this book years ago (when I was a teen), and some of the things Joan Crawford did to her adopted child still stick with me. I'm not sure if it's all believable, or if it was a publicity stunt, but it did leave an impression, none the less. My mother gave me this book with the comment, "and yo...
