This one is a little grim owing to the subject matter, but a very good book. A lot of Irving's books I start and just never get very far, but I read this one all the way through, and it stuck with me.

Whew! This book was really quite heavy, and especially difficult to get into. It really went on and on, though some parts felt too predictable. It was somewhat of a frustrating read, but not entirely bad. The very end and certain parts along the way felt too neat, but I guess it was ok.

I had been recommended this book numerouse times by friends and when I read it I realised its actually one of those books that I wish I had not finished and given up halfway. This was the first Irving novel that I have read and it will be the last as I found this novel totally overwritten and boring...
