A terrific sendup and parody of English literature set in the countryside, a la Laurence and Hardy. The Starkadders are one messed up, seriously dysfunctional family rotting away on a farm when a London cousin fallen on hard times shows up. Very funny, spot on and worth the hunt. So too is the cover...

I couldn't finish this one. I found it boring, hard to read and decidedly not funny..such a disappointment. :(

Aaaaahahhaaaha! One of the few novels I saved from college. This one actually made me laugh out loud--something I never do when reading. It's a satire, and it's fantastic!

Just fun. I love a good, sensible modern girl (for any value of "modern") who finds herself in the wacked-out world of a gothic novel. It's a great formula since Northanger Abbey, and Gibbons has great fun with it.

Frustrating. Turns out the audio version I got from the library is a BBC (?) radio play. Very difficult to hear/decipher, amidst all the sound effects. I have ordered the book from the library.
