The author sets out to accomplish a task, and the technique of writing is bent and twisted to her will, achieving her vision exactly as her mind's eye must have seen it. Scalpel sharp character studies that need to be taken in intermediate doses, otherwise all faith in humanity would be lost. It does make one wonder whether Ms. Parker ever met any decent people.
