I really did love this book. The language took a bit of getting used to but other than that it was a great read. I enjoyed the surprise in the epilogue the most.

I read this at about the same time that I read Girl With Pearl Earring, which was a delightful pairing. I am, as noted, quite fond of stories that take extant characters or personages and craft fiction around them. And Maguire, of course, has made it his signature style.
