""Good afternoon," said the cat. Its voice sounded like the voice at the back of Coraline's head, the voice she thought words in, but a man's voice, not a girl's. "Hello," said Coraline. "I saw a cat like you in the garden at home. You must be the other cat." The cat shook its head. "No," it ...
A deliciously quirky and scary short story, about a brave girl named Coraline; and the adventures that await her when she dares opening a door... Neil Gaiman uses words as if they're precious metals. If they aren't needed, you won't find them in here. The better to scare you ;) “Cats don't talk at ...
I love Coraline tremendously. It’s always been one of my all-time favorite books; I can read it over and over and never get sick of the story. It’s so haunting and well written. Everyone should read this story at least once. Gaiman truly is a master at his craft.
Coraline, perhaps Neil Gaiman's most famous work (due to the movie adaptation), is one of those books that probably everybody has to read sometime. I'll be the first to admit that the only reason this book shot up on my to-buy and to-read list was because of the appearance of the signed limited edit...
This was my first Neil Gaiman read, and now I have to say, I see what all the fuss is about! Neil Gaiman is an excellent author, and I definitely want to check out his other works. This was such a uniquely imaginative story. Honestly, it seems like so many authors are writing the same books these ...
This book was a really quick read and also kind of irritating. It gets points for creepy--well done, really. But besides that I didn't like the writing much at all. It's very flat and kind of drones on. Coraline and her choices were hard for me to relate to. She didn't seem to have much personality ...
Re-adding to my shelves (?!), as I read quite a while ago, so I don't remember much except that this is my least favorite from one of my favorite authors.
Coraline. It's a children's book written for adults. It's an adult book written for children. Somehow it's both, and it's scary, and delightful. Just read it. Gaiman is a pro at creating scary worlds that suck you in until you can't bear to put the book down. Good stuff.
A very well thought out and executed novella.Gaiman creates a Tim Burton-esque world, populates it with the most unique characters and packages them in a story that only Gaiman could write.4 STARS
