Summers leaves you gut-shot. All the emotions, pretty much continuously. And it isn't because of overwrought melodrama.
Parker’s falling and although she says she doesn’t want assistance, you can’t help but feel there’s a part of her that reaching out for someone. Perhaps it’s the bottle of Jack Daniels that she keeps in her locker at school, hidden front and center or the way she reminisces back to her previous life...
My first Courtney Summers book! I KNOW! It’s so good, such an interesting complex look at a character who has been the villain in many a YA book. I’m sure there are readers out there who hate Parker, but I loved her prickly, slightly-evil-but-never-as-evil-as-she-wants-to-be self.
