I'd actually rate this three and a half stars if I could--I enjoyed it more than I did the first book in the series, "The Queen's Man." Part of that might have been because I had just finished Penman's trilogy dealing with Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine and was loathe to leave that world. On the ...

As usual, SKP is flawless in her creation of the late 12th century including Eleanor of Aquitaine and her treacherous son John. I found this 2nd of the De Quincy novels more entertaining than the first as there was two storylines carried out and the mystery had a more satisfying ending than the firs...
