There is one thing you can't fault Penman for and that's her research. It's thorough, copious and usually factual, almost OCD in places. This was much better than the preceeding book. Takes the action through the trial and tribulations of Henry II's reign, concentrating on his son's rebellions and his relationship with Eleanor. Ends with Henry's death.
