Lustrous. Brilliant. Achingly nostalgic. Magically real. I love this book with my whole heart, though I do tend to weep my way through several chapters. Bradbury's fictionalized memoir captures the Summer of 1928 so deliciously that it's as if I too was a twelve-year-old boy that year. I've read it ...
I've decided I'm just not the audience for a book about a boy's magical summer. I'm not feeling engaged with the writing here, and it feels like a chore every time I pick the book up. I'd really rather be reading something else. I love Bradbury, but this book is missing the speculative elements I so...
this is simply gorgeous. i loved his writing and his nostalgia, i thought this was brilliant. i admit that it might work better as a collection of short stories - the bookending theme that he opens and closes with is a bit contrived - but everything in between is just beautiful.

I've always loved this book, but never so much as now when my own boy is 12. This warm and loving novel-cum-memoir is nothing at all like Bradbury's other books. It's a love le...
I remember liking it, but I last read it about 40 years ago and I'm afraid most of it has disappeared from my memory. My policy in these cases is not to assign more than three stars. By way of contrast, I have an extremely good recollection of Fahrenheit 451.Though the scene with the fireflies, wher...
