A clever set-up, interesting characters, darkness, overtones of serious issues, but also that sense of wonder. And as much as I love my faux-Edwardian and faux-Victorian settings, I love the modern, urban fantasy setting, too. Just a crazy enjoyable read, and I can't wait to read the next two.
