Hard to rate this one. I'm giving it 4.5, I think. There was something in it that I'm not sure was necessary but I'll have to wait and see how the series continues. I can't go into detail because it would spoil, but I thought there was a gratuitous event that might ultimately not enhance the story.C...

There are so many things I like about Deanna Raybourn's writing. Her stories have a relaxed, engaging pace, her mysteries are interesting. I know a lot of people liked this book a lot but I gave up at about 100 pages. Why? Well, the portrayal of the relationship between Julia and Brisbane has b...

I was disappointed in the pacing of this novel. If not for those intense glimpses into Julia and Brisbane's married life, I would not have made it through on the strength of the mystery alone.

I will try not to spoil anything major in the plot for this one, though.Lady Julia Brisbane, as she is now, after marr...

Why is it sometimes so hard to write a review for a book you loved as opposed to one you disliked? This is not going to be at all well written. I'm sorry. Deanna Raybourn's books are some of my favorite things in the world. I was so curious to see how the author could keep the relationship between...

Another great installment in the Lady Julia Grey series! One of favorite things about this series is the mysteries surrounding Brisbane and one of my fears that with he and Julia married, that would end. Not so! I'm glad to say that Brisbane is as mysterious and as sneaky as ever.Still on their honey...

Deanna Raybourn's Lady Julia series is what a Victoria Holt novel wants to be when it grows up.With Victoria Holt, you get atmospheric gothic mysteries that are just a little twisted spiced up with just a little romance. There is nothing "just a little" about the Lady Julia books. Raybourn amps up th...
