Here I was all prepared to give Dauntless a 2.5, possibly a 3 rating. I was feeling all high and mighty about military science fiction, how the genre as a whole shows a lack of imagination by depicting future national/planetary relationships as if the wars of today are inevitable parts of tomorrow. ...
I wish there was a 4 and a half star rating as I wouldn't say it was amazing, but it sure is one of the better sci-fi books I've read, a great book and I will be reading the sequels.
Very fun and enjoyable read. Nice layers of complexity that center on the question of what happens when reality has to live up to the myth/legend built up around them.Anxious to read the next one in the series (I hope there's no sophomore slump).
