Reminds me of Dianna Wynne-Jones, but for a younger audience. Quirky magical fun. With a strong female protagonist. Good for 6+ (read to), and about 8+ (read themselves).

An improper princess finds a way to do things her way, even if that does mean that she literally walks into the dragon's den, instead of waiting around to be taken. And who wants to be rescued? Not Cimorene, that's for sure. I liked the non-traditional story, the characters were interesting and i...

I read this book at least 2 or 3 times in middle school, and coming back to it as an adult, I was anxious to see whether it would hold up. It definitely did! Highly recommended.

I love these books! Cimorene isn't your normal princess and it has dragons and the prince isn't the regular knight in shining armor, why wouldn't you read it? Love it!

Unconventional Princess Cimorene doesn't fit the Princess stereotype. Definitely a hands-on kinda gal who likes to fence, cook and translate Latin verbs (?) - very un-princess-like behavior. When the King decrees she marry an unsuitable (read lame-ass) prince, she rebels and takes off for parts un...

Book 1 of the Enchanted Forest Chronicles. Funny and well-written, this one, though the main protagonist is a girl, can certainly be enjoyed by both young men and women alike. The princess Cimorene is bored and more bored at the castle by her princessy duties and refinement. So she runs off into the...

I’ve loved these books since middle school. They turn fairy tale conventions on their heads but do it in a fun and sweet way. [Oct. 2008]

This book is about a princess named Cimorene. But, she isn't what you would call your normal princess; she wanted to fence, learn magic, learn Latin and learn to cook, but once her parents found out about all of this everything was put to a stop because it isn't proper of a princess to fence, cook, ...
