Reread because Anne Stuart's first two Rohan books are clearly an homage to this and These Old Shades. The original is still better, but Stuart at least doesn't buy into quite all the dreck about the inherent superiority of the aristocracy. Mary shooting Vidal is the best thing ever.

Like this even better than These Old Shades. I find Leonie far more appealing here, but Mary Challoner may be one of my favorite Heyer heroines ever. Right up there with Sophy herself.
