Very interesting topic. Not a lot of plot; more character study.

Very bookclub-by. Well written if a bit rambly at times. Bit like an old boxer - solid middle, but a mishapen head and weak knees. A prudish Philip Roth.

A beautifully written novel, the writer has clearly done research as he wove true events into the story masterfully. It was easy to forget that these were fictional characters, and some of the elements were so emotionally distressing that I had to put the book aside for a little while. I look forw...

The blurb has the right idea, in my opinion, take the opening line!:I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day of January 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of 1974.There are no real spoilers here.

There are some lull chapters but a handful of interesting chapters override it. I love its climax. At first, I thought its all ...

I enjoyed it for about 400 pages and then the omniscence of Cal's voice began to wear on me. In the end, I didn't care all that much about Cal, and although it was probably the most realistic two pages of the novel, I didn't like the way he ended the story of Desdemona. I read this for my office's s...

I have to admit that I had put off reading this book for a long time. I just didn't get the appeal. So glad that I finally plucked it off my shelves. It was love at the first sentence - how can you not be drawn into a story that begins with being born twice. The voice of Callie/Cal is witty, insightfu...

It took me a really long time to read this book.I guess I was in a book funk - again.Or maybe it's because this book just dragged from time to time. This novel is divided into four books/parts. And I thought that the interesting part began at about 250 pages in. It was not terrible to get to know the...
