My first two impressions of this book were that the writing is wonderful (in spite of the almost complete dearth of commas), and that the book contains either depictions of violence (like, really violent violence, the savagey wild-west slaughter-the-Indians type) or lengthy descriptions of the expan...

I hated this book! I was bored out of my mind and nothing happened. I understand some of the symbolism but it wasn't interesting enough for me to be intrigued. P. 344

I'm sure this is a great novel. The only thing keeping me from getting through it is McCarthy's use of quotation marks... he doesn't use any.

Ahhhhh McCarthy, McCarthy, McCarthy.

Blood Meridian made me sick and craving for more at the same t...

In the beginning, I found it easy to get wrapped up in McCarthy's unique language and tone, but as the book went on, its episodic structure and lack of overall narrative thrust became tiresome. I'm not someone who requires a typical narrative structure, but I need something else to compel me to keep...

An amazing book, Blood Meridian is unlike any I have ever read. It would be impossible to highlight a particular passage over others because it is all so brilliant, beautifully written. You can blindly open the book to any page, plunk your finger on any paragraph and find wondrous, beautiful prose. ...

Cormac McCarthy is a contradictory writer to me. His work at once speaks of academic brilliance while his choice of using often archaic words indicates an incredible vocabulary. I can see that he truly does know how to write. Yet his decision in every work I have read to date to throw off convention...
And now for something completely wordy...
I'm gunna be harsh. Why not? McCarthy is. I novel is hanged with the fancy rope so many other reviewers extravagantly embroider for it: monotony, flatness, and one-dimensionality. Hold on there illiterate scum, you say, what about all that blood dripping symbolism (and bold historical perspective). ...
