After finishing St Mary's I was looking for a new series to read, and InCryptid had been suggested earlier to me. Since I already had the books (and there are a lot of free stories, which you can find free at the author's website), I decided to give it a try despite the very ugly cover. I was initia...

I know some of my friends liked this book, but I didn’t. It was OK but too flaky for my taste. The plot was acceptable and the pace quick, but the characters were all flat, without even an attempt by the writer to make them alive. I didn’t care for any of them and didn’t believe in their suffering. ...

3.5 to 4 starsFun, quirky read that somehow combines ballroom dance with mythological critters. Verity comes from a long line of cryptozoologists, but her true passion is for competitive dance. She's spending a year in Manhattan to pursue her dance career, as well as to keep an eye on the beasties...

Despite the wonderful description of the tango, this book is just like every single other urban fantasy novel that is glutting the market. One high maintenance, slightly unbelievable kick ass heroine? Check. (Please how does she do free running to work and not get smelly and sweaty?)...

Heh. If all urban fantasies were this good/entertaining, I'd be a fan. Most seem to be paranormal romances - or smut - strung out for half a dozen books (which I really don't like) Oh don't get me wrong; there is romance here but… you don't have chapters entirely devoted to The Deed, with details....

Fantastic urban fantasy, had all the good things in a novel that will keep it on my favourite shelf. Great world building and fab writing, a heroine who ticks all the boxes for me. Less of a focus on the romance, which suits me fine. Not to say he didn't star in the final chapter, just got the more ...

I simply love Seanan McGuire's writing. Both series, so completely different, have caught and held my interest, though I have heard rumblings about the last October Daye book. Ragnarok is the first book about Alex, Verity's brother, the only returning character from the first two books is Sarah, w...
