I had a hard time getting into this. It was very slow paced for me. I kept waiting for it to get scary and it never really did. I know its a middle grade book, but it still could have been a little creepier. I'm a fan of Holly Black, but this one fell short.
WOW. I didn't think Holly Black could get any better after Valiant, but she did! Doll Bones contains just the right amount of horror/creepy for a chicken like me. This tale will enthrall and won't let go.P.S.-Start on a weekend so you can read in one sitting.
Creepy doll! Really, no kidding, seriously creepy doll. Three friends entering middle school set out on an adventure together, maybe just to have a last gasp together before they grow up, or maybe there really is a ghost that needs to be put to rest. Either way, the story works. It works as a contem...
Lovely. The further away from finishing this I get, the more I liked it. Both the creepy and the saccharine notes work. I can't think of a single thing to complain about on this one. So I'll say again, lovely.
Zach, Poppy and Alice have been friends for ever. They love playing with their action figure toys, imagining a magical world of adventure and heroism. But disaster strikes when, without warning, Zach’s father throws out all his toys, declaring he’s too old for them. Zach is furious, confused and emb...

This review can also be found here. This was my first Holly Black book and it won't be my last. As soon as I heard about this one I was really excited about it. I love Middle Grade and throw in a creepy doll and ghost story and you have me hooked. Unfortunately, I didn't love it as much as I hoped...
Full review at http://thebookshelfgargoyle.wordpress.com/2013/05/31/post-number-100-a-double-read-it-if-review/Okay, I've given this one a four, but my real rating would be closer to 3.5 stars. The reason for this is that while I enjoyed the book very much, it wasn't the story I was expecting given ...
Reviewed at The Book Belles.Doll Bones is the first Holly Black story I’ve ever read and I thought it was pretty okay. Doll Bones is a middle grade ghost story. While it isn’t something that would give you nightmares, it’s a children’s tale with some creepy and fun elements. The thing that made Doll ...
Doll Bones was a very unexpected read for me. I've never read anything by Holly Black, but how could I pass up a creepy story about kids being haunted by a china doll?! It turns out Doll Bones was far more heartwarming and cuter than I expected. The kids in Doll Bones are 12 years old and on the brin...
