Another fun collection of essays by Sedaris. I think my favorite, and most relatable, was the story of his mother locking the kids out of the house after days of being shut up together by snowstorms had driven her a little crazy. The author certainly doesn’t spare himself in examining the failings o...
David Sedaris is the kind of author that makes me get all of his books before I finish the first. Witty, funny and a little sad. It makes me appreciate my family even more.
Thank God for David Sedaris' humor. This book helped pull me out of the funk I was in after reading Missoula. I love his dry and self deprecating humor and while I don't like this one as much as Me Talk Pretty One Day I still really enjoyed this.
Classic Sedaris. This collection focuses a lot on his family, as well as domestic themes. I laughed quite a bit, as well as nodding in commiseration. This book also includes one of my favorite essays, Possession, which I think of whenever I'm house/apartment hunting. A quick and enjoyable read.
The last episode 'Nuit of the living dead' had me break down in tears from laughing so hard. A lot of the other chapters are funny, but I read it before in other Sedaris books. I just need to think 'Oh I see you have a little swimming mouse' to start laughing like mad though. Someone told me I shoul...
3.5 stars A few years ago, for Christmas, I bought my mother a copy of Me Talk Pretty One Day. I'd never read David Sedaris, hell, I didn't know how to pronounce his name (seh-darr-is? seh-dair-is? sed-uh-ris?)... Well, obviously, I still don't. But, I picked it up and read one of the stories and la...
I FINISHED THIS. YAY. It took me like two months for some reason ... Pathetic, I know. It's not even that long. Seriously, I've been awful at reading/reviewing for the past few months. Ugh. But tonight I sat down and I was like, "BITCH, YOU'RE GOING TO FINISH THIS BOOK IN THE NEXT HOUR." So, I did. ...
David Sedaris shares stories from his personal life in this book of essays.Hated it. The first couple from his childhood were semi-funny, but as the stories went on to when he was older, I found them not humorous at all, and often just sad. I guess I just don't share his sense of humor.
