The last story in this collection, "The Dead," is by far the most resounding of all the short stories. If you're going to read any, at least, read this one. Each of the stories give you a slice of Dublin life and the people who inhabit it. By the end of each story, I eagerly wanted more. Joyce did we...

I enjoyed most of these stories ok and didn't expect to read anything else by Joyce. Until I got to the end. Although, first: many of the endings here are odd and abrupt. I'd hear a new reader announce a new story and that would be the first clue I had the previous story was over. But the reason Joy...

We bought this in Hughes and Hughes Booksellers, Dublin. Yet again I am flinging away James Joyce - he and I do not mix; it is a mutual 'meh' thing. It takes a certain amount of perspicaciousness to realise the mutual indifference.

James Joyce published Dubliners in 1914 after a lengthy battle due to his refusal to alter real place names, remove swear words, etc. Dubliners is a collection of short stories, the longest a mere 48 pages, that tell the story of the ordinary inhabitant of the city from which the novel takes it's n...

If you appreciate the art of the short story then Dubliners is one of the finest collections you will ever read. "The Dead" is easily one of the best short stories of the 20th century, and "Araby" is an amazing depiction of the frustrations and disappointments of childhood.

We're currently tearing this book to pieces in my Advanced Comp class. I've read these stories way too many times for it to be enjoyable anymore. It's not all bad, though. There are some stories that I genuinely enjoyed. "The Dead" is my favorite from the book. I'm sure I'd like this book much bette...

I really enjoy this book, particularly the section that deals with adolescence. My favorite story is probably Araby. I'd read it once before in high school, but I think a reread of abook always helps someone to give a more definite review on what they thought of something and I had to read it for ...

I'm surprised looking at my site (latereviews.blogspot.com) that I hadn't in all the time I did audiobook reviews listened to a version of this classic collection and reviewed it. I'm currently only reading "The Dead" for Flaky Genius' class, a story I've written about for undergraduate and graduate...

A collection of short stories about people living in Dublin at the turn of the 20th century. They're not bad, but they didn't rock my world, either.
