I was very impressed with this book and it is almost, but not quite a five star book. It is certainly the best of Steninbeck's books and he himself saw it as the culmination of his work.It is mostly a meditation on good and evil drawing heavily on the book of Genesis, but it is also about family, l...

Yep, a big tome. And it took me some time to read, but it was worth it, seriously.

I began this with some trepidation, considering its length. I made it through, but I doubt I'll read it again.I was prevented from sinking deep into the story, though, which is why I am hesitant to say I really liked the book. I think I was prevented from being entirely drawn into Steinbeck's world ...

I thought I wouldn't like this book very much but once I started it I couldn't put it down and it was one of the top twenty best books I have ever read. It really is just an incredible piece of storytelling. Everybody should read this book!

Although I do like Steinbeck’s strong, simple style of writing, this book let me down. With this book Steinbeck is delivering a message to his readers. I do agree with the message imparted, but I dislike that it is pounded into us. It isn’t enough to draw the story of Cain and Abel in one generation...

I have such strong feelings about this novel that I have to divide it into sections to show all of its greatness. The only thing I knew about this book was that it was a Biblical tale involving the Hamilton family and the Trask family. Since I knew neither family going in, I had the freedom to be su...

Before he started writing this novel, Steinbeck conceived of it as a gift for his sons. He wrote:They are little boys now and they will never know what they came from through me, unless I tell them. It is not written for them to read now but when they are grown and the pains and joys have tousled th...

Who would suspect that a book which can be basically boiled down to "good versus evil" or "modern take on the Biblical 'Genesis'" would be such a pleasure to read? Steinbeck's East of Eden is a family epic in the long tradition of family epics, with a Biblical seasoning. Like most family epics I hav...

I read [b:The Grapes of Wrath|4395|The Grapes of Wrath|John Steinbeck|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1352912927s/4395.jpg|2931549] about eight months ago, to be honest I was a little disappointed in it because I expected to like it more than I did on the basis of its reputation and because I love Ste...
