Holy cannoli , that was incredible. Shit got real with this fourth and final installment of the Neapolitan Novels series. The violence, thugs, and corrupted power structures in Naples were featured through all four books, but view and perspective evolves. Initially it is seen from an child's persp...

My goodness, could these get any better. There is something so raw and exposing about these characters, you almost feel embarrassed for them. In my review of the first book, I mentioned how the books were woman-centric without being feminist themed. Strike that. Lenu and Lila are all grown up...

I'm feeling way too lazy to write a review, and this convo pretty much sums it up for me. Special thanks to Lenore for being my review muse.

Such a great book. It tells of how grinding poverty and toxic masculinity limit and crush the lives of those living in it. This is a reread, as I'd read it a few years ago in a Danish translation. This passage summarises what happens when poverty limits the possibilities of those living under it:...

My Brilliant Friend written by Elena Ferrante and translated by Ann Goldstein is the first in a quartet, documenting a friendship between Elena and Lila. Told from Elena's perspective, this book is a child's view of childhood and her community with an undercurrent of sadness running through it. Havi...

Actual rating 4.5I thought that when I finished all four books, I would be able to write about them and their stories. But now I don't know where to begin. I've been taken on a long and winding journey with too many sights to single out any one for special mention. A big part of this is Ferrante's w...
