The premise - a modern day commune – of Pretty Little World by Melissa DePino and Elizabeth LaBan is intriguing. The “decision” of the characters to make their lifestyle a secret and some of the story lines the book pursues detract from that focus. Personal and marital issues exists in and out of co...
Please note that I gave this book 2.5 stars, but rounded it up to 3 stars on Goodreads. Unfortunately there is no Denis Leary character to tell these two characters about themselves like there was in the movie, "The Ref." Seriously though, there were parts of this book that were very good, but the m...

For me, this one was a classic case of English majors run amok. It has a lot of separate elements which are really interesting, but taken as a whole, the symbolism came across as very heavy-handed, and both characters and plot failed to convince me that they were worth taking seriously.

Luckily, it was voted as our book club read for "boarding school" reads. Overall, I liked the story, but there were some things I h...
