The main female character of the book is the stupidest, blindest, most self-absorbed, most wilful and most horrid heroine I've ever encountered in a romance. The "hero" is an obsessed, arrogant SOB and stalker. Their first sexual encounter is a rape, pure and simple. I read about 3/4 of the book but...
Enjoyable traditional-style Regency. No villains or evil plots - just a character-driven love story in a believable upper-class Regency English setting. (Elizabeth Thornton's books always have a genuine English feeling to them.) Quite well-written for a first novel, and fun - I had to look up all th...
Got about 2/3 of the way through this, but finally set it aside. The main characters didn't really engage me, especially the hero, who was actually rather despicable in what he did to the heroine. Yes, his stepmother and sister had been killed partly as a result of the heroine's actions as a seven-y...
The heroine of this story is an English Quaker whose main principle in life is complete openness and honesty all the time, even in situations where a "white lie", or just keeping one's mouth shut, could be used to smooth out a social situation. I.e. she is painfully naive and stupid. The hero is an ...
Interesting book, although both the hero and heroine are extremely annoying at times. Most of their differences and difficulties could have been avoided simply by asking questions and telling each other what was going on. Especially from Maddie's side - she's a real spitfire, not afraid to say what ...
Ever since we started Book Binge, I've been trying authors that I probably wouldn't have tried unless Holly forced me to do so and Elizabeth Thornton was another one.I don't know what I was expecting when I first started this book but what I got was a story about two people from opposite sides of th...
I changed authors in the hope of more amenable characters. There were some but also the usual array of repugnant female characters. It's a nice little mystery and miscommunication is discarded quickly but the jealous widowed sister-in-law was a harpy too far.
Resolution of their issue from 8 years ago dragged on so long that I never really engaged in the story and eventually skimmed just to finish so my rating is 2.5* James has premonition that his once spurned love Faith is in danger.
I am unable to rate this book because I have tried several times to read it and can't get into it. I don't know why, as I have read several by this author and really like her.
