To my mind, the most troublesome of Austen's work. I just feel Emma should have been out conquering the world, not stuck in a tiny English village for the rest of her life. Even with a man who loves her. Obviously I'm not suggesting that as some kind of AU Emma fanfic proposition. I think the re...

Probably the Jane Austen book that I like the least but only because I didn't like the main character :p

Reading Jane Austen is always a pleasure. There is nothing tedious in her writing, no twaddle. It is as comfortable and refreshing as listening to Bach, and in some ways just as challenging and rewarding. Each of her books is nearly as much its own character in her writing as the characters themselv...

We've just gone through an orgy of Jane Austen videos at our house, including two versions of Pride and Prejudice, two of Persuasion, and two of Emma. My spouse went back and re-read most of them, and decided I should also re-read at least one. I'd done Pride and Prejudice fairly recently, so Emma w...

Emma is a reflection of myself in some aspect. Her character is to be loved by reader, of her mischeif, of her misconduct, of her unjust. She is pretty, rich, smart, such a perfect creature, yet flawed, too confident, and somehow comceit. Austen's portray on each character so well as always. This bo...

Another fantastic book by Jane Austen. Despite Emma's bumbled matchmaking, everything worked out in the end.

Ok, in theory "Emma" deserves five stars merely because it is written by Jane Austen. My favorite author of all time. However the reality is quite different. This is my second time reading this book, and I really desperately wanted to love it. But I just can't. I do like it, but I do not love it. It ...

While I didn't find this book as good as Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility, it was still enjoyable and fun to read. As a character, Emma could be frustrating at times, but her journey was engaging and believable.

I couldn't get into this one as easily as her other works. Maybe because it's longer? Maybe because I already know the storyline so well that I was bored? I am not sure exactly, but I do know that it seemed to be very slow ...
