First Bean book. I love the way Card reweaves the story he told in Ender’s Game, making it both the same and different. And I found it quite emotionally touching as well, particularly the final battle scene and the end. [July 2011]

I may be alone here, but I strongly feel that this book takes something away from Ender's Game and I wish I wouldn't have read it. The subsequent sequels I enjoyed, as I like Bean and Petra and Peter, but this one . . . this one just sucks all the fun out of it.

Definitely a step up from Ender's Game. Bean is just a more interesting, less whiney character than Ender is, and his back story is a lot better. Card shows his maturity and the lessons he learned from Game this time around. There is still a lot in this book that I would call "campy," but it's a...

I loved the whole Ender's Game series. Recently someone told me that years later Card wrote this shadow series. It is about Bean, and I really enjoyed it.
