This was a hard book for me to get into and I didn’t help anything by reading ahead. The hero of this book, Jake, is just so good, unselfish and self-effacing, that I had trouble respecting him, and when I saw what a tremendous sacrifice he makes (no spoilers), I felt impatient rather than touched....
