Usually a book with this many story lines makes my head hurt, but this book is really brilliant and engrossing. I also really appreciate when men write such whole, complete, and interesting female characters.

I love reading fiction based on history. The author focuses on individuals who were not major players yet played key roles in the development of this historical period. This is the first book in a trilogy and I look forward to continuing the saga.
