Back in 2008, when I was still working in the UK Water Industry for United Utilities, I was ‘suckered’ into entering the Great North Run. (Just over 13 miles from Newcastle to South Shields – all uphill.)So that someone would benefit from my pain, other than my sadistic friends, I decided to try to raise money for Wateraid – the charity of choice for anyone working in the UK Water Industry. I wrote a diary/blog describing the pain I was going through in my training and used the updates as an excuse to email my colleagues and remind them to sponsor me. I received a lot of positive feedback – mainly about how much they were enjoying my suffering. But it seemed to work and I raised over £1100 for WaterAid.For some reason I did it all again in 2009.Having just published my first full length novel, ‘Soft in the Middle’, on Kindle, I thought that I could use my new found publishing skills to get some more mileage out of the training diary and make some more money for WaterAid. Some statistics from the WaterAid website:‘The water and sanitation crisis is the second biggest killer of children under five years old worldwide.’‘2.5 billion people in the world do not have access to adequate sanitation, almost two fifths of the world's population.’‘Around 700,000 children die every year from diarrhoea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation - that's almost 2,000 children a day.’ This book continues my personal support for WaterAid and I encourage you to do the same by visiting www.wateraid.org
