First Light was fine - it was good - but sadly, I didn't love it nearly as much as Liar & Spy or When You Reach Me. On the bright side, it would make a very pretty movie.
This was a hard boo to get through but It was great.
Originally reviewed here. Why I Read It: I had just finished Liar and Spy and was looking up on Rebecca Stead and discovered that she had published a book before When You Reach Me. My local library had it in their catalog, so I decided to check it out. Spoiler-free review ahead.>Rebecca Stead, I LOVE...
This book is seriously odd. Much, much odder than When You Reach Me. It reminded me a bit of Below the Root and quite a lot of The City of Ember, but not as amazing as the former or as coherent as the latter.
I greatly enjoyed this novel when I first read it, so I chose this book to read with my daughter. Halfway through, she wanted to keep reading past our time together and she is finishing it on her own, asking me only the occasional question.First read April 2-14, 2010.Second read April 1-24, 2012
