I really hated this book. It had potential at the beginning, but it just went downhill and kept on going. I didn't feel anything for any of the characters, and they all irritated me more than anything. The story was not interesting and felt so dry and emotionless.I give it 2 stars.. not goodread...

I read this book for calico_reaction's Alphabet Soup book club. I've heard of Octavia E. Butler in the past and she's been an author who I've kept on my radar. This was the perfect excuse to read something by her, and I was lucky that my local library carried this title (though I didn't get it until...

Great take on the vampire idea! Very interesting and unique! I wish the country respected a book like this more than that twilight crap, this was very well written!

The best amnesiac vampire book ever. Okay, maybe the only, but still. This is a vampire story, but in typical Butler fashion. she rearranges the vampire metaphors to speak strongly to race, sex, privilege and the li...

Warning: This review contains large spoilersThis was a very disturbing read. Shori is Ina (vampire) and has the mind of a 54 year old but she has the body of a child of 11 or 12. So when she has sex with adults it felt like pedophilia to me, especially since the first person she had sex with expre...

Weird issues of consent and power start crushing this book about 1/3 of the way through. The nature of the vampires' support, and the tone Butler took in describing it, troubled me.
