Philistine alert. Vol. 1 of an influential space opera that strikes me as being terribly sketchy with flat characters being plopped down in assorted situations. Hard going overall.Sadly or not, I've been spoiled by more fully-fleshed sci-fi written since. Robinson's Mars Trilogy took forever to read...
It's probably a fool's errand to review a book that's 64 years old, and has been read by everyone who has an interest in science fiction, no matter how slight. It's like me stumbling across Half-Life or Portal and going on to rave about how they're awesome, ground-breaking games: Who am I talking t...
Hari Seldon was a great mathematician. He studied math that dealt with human civilizations and was called psychohistory. He very correctly predicted in the period of three hundred years the fall of the Galactic Empire in which lived a quadrillion of people. He also prophesized that after the declin...
Fascinating to see the lines connecting this work to so many others I have read. Foundational indeed. But pretty mediocre writing, flat mouthpiece characters, etc. Worth reading as ideas, not story.(Also: Am I the only one wondering if George Lucas really ripped off everything he did from books like...
Yes, I have read Foundation before, chances are you have too! However, for some reason I missed out on the later Foundation books from [b:Foundation's Edge|76683|Foundation's Edge (Foundation, #4)|Isaac Asimov|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1442201382s/76683.jpg|1725527], I can barely remember who Ha...
Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent There are two novels often debated as the best two science fiction works of all time. One is Frank Herbert's Dune and the other is Isaac Asimov's Foundation. Having read both novels I feel that while each are highly important science fiction works in ...
I began reading this book several years ago and while I did like what I read I couldn't finish it at the time.I had wanted to read it again, as well as the rest of the series, but recently I became aware of Asimov's behaviour at sci-fi cons.I'm disgusted.I will not read any of his books again.I have...
This story never gets old. Prophetic. Pure science fiction that borders on science faction.Foundation is essentially 5 short stories that tell the tale of a group of scientists who seek to preserve knowledge as the civilizations around them begin to regress and degenerate.
Hard to review a classic, really. Especially one I read long ago, and have fond memories of. Suffice to say, although it shows that this was written as several short stories originally, it doesn't matter, in fact I wish a lot of modern authors would look at some of this older stuff and take note. ...
I'm re-reading Foundation for the first time in many years, a gorgeous edition from the Folio Society. The book ages well, the story is close to timeless. The utter conceit of a man establishing a foundation (or two) to shorten the interregnum between empires still amazes me.
