I was all set to give this book a 2 star rating, because I was really not liking it. But about 3/4 of the way through, there was a line about the attainment of wisdom through learning, and for some reason, that paragraph really resonated with me, particularly in light of the fact that 60 Minutes re...

Not my favorite book, but I've found myself considering it many years after I read it.I think this book should be read by EVERY parent or parent-to-be. It's a wonderful example of what can happen when children are exposed to all religions, with no editorialization about where they should hang their ...

I just don’t know how I feel about Franny and Zooey. I really don’t. I read it a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t write anything about it, as I couldn’t decide if I loved it, just liked it or absolutely hated it. I can rule out hating it I suppose, as I finished it and I never finish books that I...

This novel seems to give the general populace quite a bit of grief.Let's see if I can help sort things out. Franny has a crises of faith, in God, in man and in herself most of all. Zooey, who possesses the least faith in God, man, and all too much in himself helps her back on track. How poetic tha...

I find myself compelled to reread this book every couple of years. I know people rave about Catcher in the Rye, but for me, I'm happier spending time with the Glass family.

There are moments that are really really effective and affecting, moments that are probably better than anything in Rye. But I can't follow the serious Salinger fan majority here and agree that this is a better book. It is far less consequential. I mean, this is like that family in the Royal Tenn...

Could be my favorite book of the year. Of course I read the book some time ago, but revisited it again this summer. Quite a little masterpiece I think. I loved it.

'Franny and Zooey' first came to me the summer after my Freshman year of college, and I felt like I had never identified with a character as much as I did Franny Glass. Zooey was interesting, but too much of an asshole for me to admire or sympathize with.Salinger seemed to me to be writing about exa...

Edited to include visual: "Disaffected Young Adult," which is a picture of MFSO, used with his permission, with the following explanation (in his words): "I refer to it [the picture:] as 'Too Much Fun' and that it's from the end of my first year in college in the summer of 2004 while in the midst of...

Though I risk blasphemy in saying so, Franny and Zooey is my favorite Salinger book. I love the descriptions of the apartment, the conversation between family members. It's a very intimate book.
