The Otting or Oetting name originated from the name of the leader of a tribe in the 5th century. It was a local tribe and the leader's name was Odo. This developed into the name Oto. Which developed into the name Autingas (Latin origin). The earliest recording of the name Autingas is in a script that dates back to the year AD 748. The word "Ting" means to "come together" ~ so perhaps the word Otting means the coming together or the meeting place of the Odo tribe.
