Garrison Keillor is kind of an underrated writer. He gets dismissed because nearly all his stories are heavy with small town Minnesota nostalgia. But any writer can tell a story about terrorists and time-travel and dinosaurs and atomic bombs and make it exciting. It takes real talent to tell a st...

A very funny book about the death of Evelyn Petersen and the mayhem that follows. Greedy relatives, drunk ex-husband, lovers and two other subplots. This was my first Lake Wobegon novel, but certainly not my last. Four stars overall, and recommended. For the longer review, please go here:http://www....

I've lusted after these books for a long time. Everything about them from the sharp design and production value to the actual content itself appealed to me. this is funny and sad if possible at the same time. The narrator is brilliant has a laconic laid-back style which superbly suits the writing which is as it should be since Garrison Leillor is both author and narrator. If you have ever listened to Lake Wobegon on the radio this is for you

The mayor of Minnesota Jimmy Valente (a Jesse Ventura rip-off) tells his story of how he went from a scrawny adopted kid to a heart throb war vetera...

Opens up at Mickey's Diner with some low sax jazz in true (Guy) Noir fashion.Overly self-indulgent but the blessing is, it's short.

Maybe it's because I've never read Keillor's work. Maybe it's because I haven't exactly had a good Christmas season this year. Maybe it's because I just wasn't in the mood. Or maybe, just maybe, this book was just a wee bit boring. And confusing. And weird in a way I just couldn't get down with...

Confirmed my suspicion that Garrison Keillor is a hilarious teller of sentimental and poignant stories. Ultimately leans toward the sweet of bittersweet.
