Katharine is a judge for the Aurealis Awards. This review is the personal opinion of Katharine herself, and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of any judging panel, the judging coordinator or the Aurealis Awards management team. Like any anthology, some stories I really liked, others not so much - hence the 3 stars as a middle ground. However, I do think that many of the stories that I didn't much like were a question of the type of fiction I like, not that they were poorly written. Just not my type of story. Overall, I'...

There's some interesting ideas here, but it just never came together for me. The connections between the past and present veered from being too tenuous and too blatantly metaphorical. I enjoyed the setting and the prose, though.

3.5 starsA very good compilation of stories exploring the them of dystopias. One warning - find some light/fluffy/happy books to read in between chunks of this book, it is just too depressing to read one after the other with no relief. Some classics, like "The Lottery" and "Minority Report", and pl...

On 02:53 on the 25th of March, it so happened that there were exactly 253 people in the world reading Geoff Ryman's novel. For 253 seconds, each of them [Get on with it - Ed]. Oh yes.
